Sónar 2010 visits the windy city
Music
Sónar is a Barcelona-based festival of advanced music and multimedia art that has been running strong since 1994. Luckily for us, 2010 finds a leg of the festival making its way to the shores of Lake Michigan September 9–11.
Chicago hosts, with Millenium Park’s Pritzker Pavilion and the Chicago Cultural Center providing the stage space. The festival features a stellar lineup of music and film including the likes of Oval, Nosaj Thing, Ben Frost and the Slew (feat. Kid Koala).

Dig the artful calligraphy, illustration and type design of UK talent Sebastian Lester.

Two-wheels & functional
I dig everything Madsen has done to make the “urban utility bike” a stylish alternative to the Ford F150. Lovely palettes, great photography and a quality product (after all, this really is more important than aesthetics, right?). If you’ve got a ton of stuff to haul, what good is a fixie?

And the trilogy comes to a close:
“Over half the world’s population now lives in an urban area, and 75% will call a city home by 2050 … Who is allowed to shape our cities, and how do they do it? … By exploring a diverse range of urban design projects around the world, Urbanized will frame a global discussion on the future of cities.”
Stay tuned for a 2011 premier.

Typographic scultpture
Really loving this giant typographic sculpture by Jaume Plensa. Now if only I could take a trip to the southern coast of France to see it in person...

Found photography
I have a serious addiction to flipping through discarded photos and postcards whenever I visit an antique store or thrift shop. This blog does a masterful job of explaining why.

Figure abstraction and masterful food styling find a happy—albeit occasionally unsettling—home together in the work of Bill Durgin.
