Check out the work of Trevor & Ryan Oakes. There's a lengthy article on them over at the Chicago Reader that explains their process. It's definitely worth reading. There's a piece of theirs by Cloud Gate in Millennium Park that's been up for a while now and it's amazing. If you haven't already seen it, go. The park is wonderful this time of year.
