    Cantankerous Hellfighter

    Thursday July 15th from 7pm-11pm
    at The Family Room
    1821 W Hubbard St. # 202

Join us pre-Pitchfork/Flatstock to celebrate the work of two of the longest names in poster art, Delicious Design League and Aesthetic Apparatus, as they join forces to create Cantankerous Hellfighter – a collection of collaborative prints, paper toys, apparel and test prints. Only one rule applies: NO GIG POSTERS!

Both design studios share similar histories and paths to glory. For example, both shops were started by two heterosexual life mates living together and running a shop out of their basements; both utilize original and found content in their design in unique and novel ways; both give better hugs than handshakes.

Please come and enjoy Cantankerous Hellfighter, another show exploiting The Post Family’s continued fascination with the space between form and function.

We’re creating an online gallery of imagery and work related to the current crisis in the gulf.

Send us your work—be it smart, witty and sophisticated or heavy-handed, blunt and angry—so we can pool it together. We’re not asking you to bash BP—most would say we’ve all played a hand in this mess. But tell the world what’s on your mind in the best way that artists and designers know how.

So if you're in the LA area and like art and want to support a good cause, then get out to this show! It's gonna be great. I'm bummed I won't be able to be there myself! There's some more info here.

    Prairieside Forks on 20X200

Ross Racine draws these amazing aerial-looking-photos without any photographs or scanned materials which is pretty perplexing. Would love to see "photos" of his process.

Some of his work is being featured on the Art for Everyone site, 20x200

    Thank You San Francisco!

    Love, The Post Family

The Family has just returned from an amazing trip to San Fran. We are all exhausted and refreshed at the same time. We spent a week at the Levi's Workshop/Printshop letter pressing and screen printing posters and that explore the mission of Creative Commons with the help of Craig Newmark. We presented a fresh new identity to the brilliant Green For All organization. We had some insane croissants from Tartine Bakery that made me have to take a nap. Indulged in some insane coffee from Blue Bottle. Went zine crazy at Needles & Pens. And most importantly, made some super rad friends!

We will be updating our flickr this week with some beautiful and possibly incriminating photographs so check back. Also, we will be loading up our shop with new prints from the workshop in the next few weeks.

    J Tillman - Singing Ax

    J. Tillman's new album Singing Ax, which was recorded in just a 3-day span somewhere in Chicago, is speaking directly to my soul.

He'll be performing at the Empty Bottle in Chicago on August 5th.

Check out Three Sisters (mp3) that Western Vinyl is distributing as the album preview.

    Misspelled - Victor Reyes

Open til August 14 in SF

A new friend recommended I check out Victor Reyes solo show at the Robert Berman Gallery. So after a night of printing at the Levi's Workshop I rode my bike over only to be surprised by Reyes hanging out. So after a nice personal tour of his work he snapped this photo.

Check out it out by picking up his beautiful monograph of the show.

    Morning Portrait

I've had the pleasure of rooming with Chad for the past week or so and have come to realize that this dude does not like mornings. Especially this morning. I took this one to add to my continuing Red Polaroid series and it's quickly becoming my favorite. Thanks for being a good sport Chad!

    Illustration

Somewhere on the fine line between London and Berlin lives a great illustrator/art director/lecturer. So much good stuff on her site it's hard to pick a favorite piece. I really love her marker drawings. Check out her blog while you're at it.

    835 W. Washington, Chicago
    August 6th - September 3rd 2010
Noon to 5pm Wed - Sat or by appointment

    opening
    Friday August 6th 2010
    6-9pm

Both in their art and their attendant values these artists work tirelessly to sustain cultural entities. They blanket space with meaning and convert square footage into bold proclamations. The music world reaps the rewards of Sonnenzimmer's subtle, painterly gig posters while the apparel industry appropriate's Mike Perry's electric zine hallucinations into backpacks and Nike dunks. Both Dan Funderburgh and Seripop explore the limits of spatial adornment, Dan through the design of delicately intricate wallpaper that balances Moorish mosaic with American op art, and Seripop via enormous street poster collages, a medium they have evolved from their monstrous rock posters and describe as "the 'skin' of a city, growing and shedding organically."
