Mixed results
Winners from the Dollar ReDe$ign Project were announced earlier this summer. Not quite sure how the jury selected an “Overall Winner,” or any of the 6 runners-up for that matter. I’d have to say I’m not blown-away by much from the group. But don’t take my word for it, I'll let you be the judge.

magazine
While searching the meticulously curated shelves of my favorite Chicago book store, Golden Age, I discovered my new favorite magazine, Paperback. Featuring amazing art, badass binding, intense inserts and so much more alliteration. I highly recommend picking up the second issue.

featuring Paul Elledge, Leasha Overturf & Jo-Nell Sieren
What is family?
The answer can be comforting to some, and terrifying to others. For most of us the answer lies somewhere in-between those two extremes, and that’s where things just begin to get interesting.
Join us in welcoming Paul Elledge, Leasha Overturf and Jo-Nell Sieren to the Family Room Gallery this September as they individually answer this seemingly simple, straightforward question through a common medium of photography in “Family View.”

New Music Monday
Check out Like Dust of the Balance, Ochre’s gorgeous new release on Scotland’s Benbecula Records. Analog squelches, warms synth tones and a dash of acoustic instrumentation—Boards of Canada fans take note.

Nicholas Gottlund
"Plain & Fancy is a photography exhibition and publication from Nicholas Gottlund. With Plain & Fancy Gottlund uses the concept of animism to present objects in nature (oak leaves, antlers, a branch from a spice bush) as elements of a cultural narrative shared by all. The photographs are stark, subdued and emotive. The exhibition will also feature sculptures of the same theme."

The only fantasy football site with a soul.
We helped our friend Derek launch a new kind of fantasy football site this week! Pyromaniac is a pretty bad ass site that merges fantasy football with a new aesthetic and some pretty brutally honest commentary. This project renewed my excitement towards football and hope you check it out, I think it's pretty darn neat and we pretty darn proud of it.

Last Weekend!
It's the last weekend of DECADENCE so that means there's only two performances left. Don't miss out on your last chance to check out our second production!
Still confused about how our show works? It's easy: there are two shows running simultaneously in separate rooms only a few yards apart. They work independently, so there's no pressure to come back and see the second show but if you dig what you see, we're offering a $5 discount to come back and complete the experience.
The last two performances are at 8PM on Friday, August 21st and Saturday, August 22nd in our gallery and workshop at 1821 W. Hubbard #202.
Tickets are $15 (or $25 for both) and everything is CASH ONLY.

Sculpture

Ben Stonberg was another one of the artists whose work help define the environment of this year's Rothbury Festival. His sculptures were a prominent feature of Reincarnation, an area off the main path where you could find many of the natural found object installations amongst a maze of landscaped trails and hidden gathering areas. Ben's Boot, Bell and Buddha were some of the highlights of his work on display, proving that as long as the subject of his sculptures start with the same letter as his first name, it will be good.
